The path to a fulfilling career is often shaped by diverse experiences and personal discoveries. My professional and academic journey reflects this idea.
Through internships, professional experiences, academic training and travels, each step has allowed me to develop strong skills while nurturing my passion for service, wine and international management. This story invites you to discover how these experiences gradually came together to shape both my professional and personal ambitions.
Discovering the Wine World in Provence
My journey truly began in 2021 with an internship at Domaine de Métifiot in Provence, as part of my business school program. There, I learned how to welcome guests, lead guided tours, and manage the tasting room and retail area. This first experience in the wine world gave me a concrete understanding of the profession and highlighted the importance of strong customer relationships.
Growing Skills as a Junior Sommelier in Ireland
In 2022, I took a gap year to improve my English and broaden my horizons. During this time, I worked as a Junior Sommelier at Ashford Castle in Ireland, specifically in the George V Dining Room. This prestigious setting exposed me to a high standard of wine service and hospitality.
Working alongside professionals sommeliers, I assisted with wine service during lunches and dinners. This role sharpened my attention to detail and taught me how to meet the expectations of an international clientele. I learned to pair wines thoughtfully with dishes and to present them with confidence and knowledge. The experience deepened my passion for wine and strengthened my customer service skills in a luxury environment.
Academic Foundations in Italy
Italy played a central role in my journey. As part of my business school program, I spent two years as an exchange student at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Piacenza. There, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Labour Economics and a Master’s degree in International Management.
These studies provided a strong theoretical foundation to understand economic and managerial challenges in a global context. The courses covered topics such as labor markets, international business strategies, and cross-cultural management. Living in Italy also enriched my cultural awareness and language skills, which are essential in international careers.
Immersing in Barolo’s Wine Culture
From June to November 2023, I completed an internship as a Wine and Customer Experience Ambassador at Ceretto in Alba, located in the renowned Barolo wine region. This role combined my passion for wine with my skills in customer service and management.
At Ceretto, I led wine tours, hosted tastings, and shared the story of the vineyards and winemaking process with visitors. This experience allowed me to connect deeply with the terroir and traditions of Barolo wines. It also helped me develop skills in event organization and customer engagement, essential for creating memorable experiences that go beyond the glass.
Experience in Hospitality and Customer Service in Prestigious Environments
Throughout my professional journey, I have gained valuable experience in high-end hospitality environments where attention to detail, organization and customer care are essential. Working in demanding service settings has allowed me to develop strong teamwork skills, adaptability and a constant focus on delivering a seamless guest experience.
I had the opportunity to further develop these skills while working as a receptionist at Hostellerie de Levernois, where I welcomed guests, managed reservations and assisted visitors with personalized recommendations throughout their stay. This role strengthened both my organizational abilities and my communication skills while immersing me in the world of luxury hospitality.
Across these experiences, I learned how to anticipate clients’ needs, maintain high service standards and contribute to the smooth coordination of service operations. Whether assisting during exclusive events or welcoming international guests, these roles helped me develop the professionalism and flexibility required to work with a discerning international clientele.
Lessons Learned and Future Ambitions
Each step of this journey has contributed to my growth both professionally and personally. The internships taught me practical skills and the importance of customer relationships. The academic training gave me tools to understand complex business environments. Living and working in different countries expanded my cultural perspective and language abilities.
Looking ahead, I aim to combine these experiences to build a project that blends international management with my passion for wine and service. I want to create experiences that connect people to the stories behind the wines they enjoy, while also navigating the challenges of global business.
This story shows how diverse experiences can come together to shape a fulfilling career. It is a reminder that every step, no matter how different, adds value and brings you closer to your goals. Whether you are just starting out or looking to change direction, embracing new opportunities and learning from each one can open doors you never expected.
